Construction Method: Loadbearing Strawbale
After attending a straw bale course, George and Lynn decided to incorporate straw into their own self build on their croft in Balfron.
With design work from Straw Works and contractor help from SNaB, who also ran training courses on the build, the house was completed in 2020. The resultant building is a modest single storey loadbearing family home with two bedrooms, built on car tyre foundations. It is off-grid with solar thermal, hydro, wind and rainwater harvesting.
