Location: Aberdeen, Scotland
Timeframe: Built in 2018 – 2019
Our Involvement: Design
Floor area: 98m2
Construction Method: Loadbearing
This strawbale office is a single storey loadbearing straw building. It was self built by and for members of the Beannachar Camphill Community. The residential charity provides meaningful training opportunities for young adults with learning difficulties, many of whom were involved throughout the build.
Designed by Straw Works, it is naturally a cement-free construction; the foundations were constructed using local stone and the floor is a limecrete slab, insulated with recycled foam glass aggregate.
The finished building houses a reception, a meeting room, three offices, a small kitchenette and toilet. It is set amongst 28 acres of ground, with views out onto the site’s extensive woodland. Check out their full gallery of the build here.
