Two Different Extensions in Straw
Extension to listed building Todmorden
Built in 2016, this lovely loadbearing extension was designed by Straw Works and built predominantly by the owner, with some expert help from a strawbale carpenter and SNaB, who ran training courses on straw, lime and clay. The listed building permission was easily obtained as the materials used are all natural, in keeping with the heritage of the original stone and lime house.
Extension in a conservation area, Hook Norton, Oxfordshire
This extension was difficult to get passed by the planners, who had particular ideas of how it should look. Straw Works adapted the original design to be a loadbearing straw building. SNaB ran training courses for straw, lime and clay and one of our trainees worked as a professional builder on the project.
